A Lolli by any other Name

Our lil one doesnt fancy candies much. The reason we confidently claim so is becos he has never looked at a candy the way he would at a toy or book or a DVD, for that matter. So we have always remembered that day when SZ actually took notice and insisted on one...in fact, just a day before he officially turned 24 months. And it was a Jolly Rancher Lolli (watermelon flavoured to be exact) from a neighbourhood party shop. Since then he would always request for a lollipop each time he spots one, altho not always Jolly Ranchers..haha. Just today he wanted another. So we made him say "Lolli-Pop" first. To which SZ somehow stuttered, "Lolli-Lop-Pop". We broke into laughter and decided SZ deserves the best lolli in the whole wide world for improvising a simple sweet name of a lollipop! more storieSZ...

let’s break the ice with…storieSZ.

Order! Order!

it was running late for breakfast for us that day. so we thought we better have something to eat first before we start off with our day’s errands. since we were just around the corner of a Mamak joint, Abah took an easy turn in and immediately found a parking space. Abah settled at a table under a shady tree and I took SZ in to look at their dishes. A Mamak guy was there fiddling with a ladle and was seen trying to fill up the stainless steel container with nasi briyani. I wasn’t bothered. I tried to find something appetizing and to my surprise, SZ exclaimed, “Abang, I want chicken” ~ with his eyes ever so fixed on the serving of juicy fried chicken pieces sprinkled with curry leaves. And yes! he was addressing to that particular Mamak guy and trying to independently place an order. I was somewhat astounded but quickly reiterated to the guy that we would like to have fried chicken. So do enjoy the pix of SZ enjoying away his fried chicken :)

Simple answers, Simply answered

today i had the opportunity to stay in looking after the welfare at home. the new maid just came (that’s another story altogether) so we had to go thru some kind of induction with SZ. SZ was unloding his toys all morning from the chests and trying to locate his Nemo fishing set. finally he found Dory amidst the heap but noticed he could not successfully fish it out of the toy dump it now has become without the magnetic point at its pout. so i went like “hey where did that go?”, actually thinking out loud. in a single breath SZ retorted at me, “All gone”. Oh yeah..isn’t it just sublime if we can have a two-word answer to everything. My heart smiled.

Little boy, Big comments

SZ had high temperature that night. normally, under those conditions he would be very clingy. this morning when i wake up for my fajr prayers, he woke up too. yes that clingy :( and little did i know he actually trailed me to the bathroom. I was taking my wudhu, concentrating on the face area when i heard this uninvited remark from the most familiar voice, “Ummy face, BIG face”. Thanks dear..you made my day and no, not because of that observation you made but the fact that I’m determined you should well and kicking by now.

A Universe of Exclamations!

SZ really has had the WoW! word going for him for quite a bit now. the other time when we were at the airport, plain tired of waiting at the departure lounge, he blurted “WoW! plane!”. alrighty, this budget plane was seen slowly but surely approaching down the runway ready to fly us home. then on, we always hear him chuckling, “WoW! this” and “WoW! that” everytime he spots anything from the grandest of buses on the road to the littlest bug at a branch’s end.

just last night as we were taking a drive to the nearby mall, our little caliph SZ suddenly exclaimed, “Moon! WOW! Nice”, simultaneously smiling and pointing at la luna. And so our little one now has gone a step further to appreciate Allah’s creation. Masya-Allah.

My Bad..arghh!

SZ has just completed his freestyle self-expression art session when i intercepted to say,”let’s clean up the mess. you pick up the crayon for the crayon case while ummy take care of the colored pencils.” he actually picked up every single one and i thought we were good to go. i turned to leave and then heard him summoned, “one more”. i turned back and yes! it was one fuchsia colored pencil, which should be under my care, left abandoned by ME! . What a shame!

A Fishy Tale

I tried to concoct for SZ something wholesome this evening to serve as early dinner. it’s somewhat something i would call “seafood rice” almost risotto like (but turned out the exact opposite). there’s crabmeat, prawns and fish (i have long known SZ affinity towards fish compared to the rest). but what the heck!, i tried my luck. there i was feeding him. first up was the prawn. he rejected. then i said, “ok have the crabmeat then”. he looked up at me, stared right into my eyes and moved his index finger from left to right and back, in utter disagreement. In a i-really-mean-it tone, he blurted, “Nooo..no..no.no…tish (fish)”. I geddit, i geddit and tish (fish) it will be.
